DESCRIPTION

Rare châtelaine originating from the Golden Triangle but purchased in Thailand in the early 2000s. It is made of silver, with a total weight of 146 g. The main pendant consists of a 27-gram French trade piastre dating from 1904. The small tools intended for cleaning opium pipes are attached to three French silver coins of 10 centimes.

In these miniature tools you find scrapers, spoons, cleaning hooks, tamping sticks, pliers, curved blades, as well as instruments shaped like stylized swords. Two cat claws, encircled with finely decorated silver, are also attached to the jewel.

This type of object could be worn over the shoulder, hung from the waist, or worn around the neck.

We find necklaces bearing this type of charm in the book Peoples of the Golden Triangle by the Lewis couple; see the last two photos.
