Beautiful painting of an already historic rural landscape with sheaves of corn. The work is in excellent condition and was painted by one of the best-known Hague School painters from the Renkum area; Cornelis Kuijpers.
The work is painted in oil on canvas (marouflé) and was purchased through Galerie Babette Claassen and is framed in a beautiful matching frame.
The canvas itself measures 36 by 56 cm.
Cornelis Kuijpers was born on September 20, 1864, in Gorinchem and died on October 29, 1932, in Soest. He is known as a Dutch painter and watercolorist, especially appreciated for his landscapes and water scenes. He is considered a descendant of the Hague School.
Kuijpers grew up in an artist family: his father, Jan Kuypers, painted landscapes and genre scenes. Cornelis initially received painting lessons from his father and later attended the Quellinusschool in Amsterdam.
He mainly painted natural landscapes and water scenes, often in typical Dutch environments. His work clearly shows the influence of the Haagse School, with calm, realistic scenes, soft color use, and attention to atmospheric lighting. Nature itself is always central; human figures are usually small and subordinate to the landscape.
Kuijpers often worked en plein air (outside, in nature), and his landscapes are characterized by:
Kuijpers regularly exhibited with contemporaries, including at the Renkum artists' association 'Pictura Veluvensis.' He received awards at international salons in Barcelona (1907 and 1911), indicating that his work was appreciated beyond the Netherlands.
