Description from the seller
Johnnie Walker in composite material.
This is a classic advertising image of the famous "Striding Man", the iconic logo of the Scottish whisky brand Johnnie Walker.
Origin and Material
• Material: These figures were often made from a composite material such as polyester resin, plaster with a plastic coating. Composite fits perfectly with the production method of bar-displays from the second half of the 20th century.
• Period: Although the logo dates from 1908, these kinds of images about 40 cm tall were mainly produced between the 1950s and 1970s. They were often displayed on the counter in British pubs or liquor stores as eye-catchers.
Symbolism of the Figure
The design is based on a drawing by the cartoonist Tom Browne from 1908. The elements each have their own meaning:
• The stance: The big step forward symbolizes progress, hence the slogan "Keep Walking".
• The clothing: He is depicted as a 'Dandy' from the Regency period (early 19th century), complete with a top hat, red tailcoat, white riding breeches and riding boots.
• Attributes: He holds a walking stick and often wears a monocle (although it is missing in many visual representations or it is broken).
rarity
• Dimensions: The 40 cm size is a very popular size. There are also smaller versions (about 25–30 cm) and very large floor statues (about 70 cm or larger).
• Condition: in very good condition.
Size: 40 x 22 x 8 cm, weight 1.6 kg
The whisky bottle is shown only to illustrate the size of the subject.
