Boslandschap, an original oil painting on canvas by Henk Welther from the 1930–1940 period, an impressionist landscape of the Netherlands, hand-signed, 51 × 61 cm, framed.
Description from the seller
Oil paint on canvas
An impressionistically painted forest landscape.
Henk Welther (The Hague, 1891–1947) was a Hague art mediator who was active in the local artists' milieu.
Although he himself also painted, he mainly earned his income from trading in works by others, often unsigned, which he then signed with his own name or with the pseudonyms H. Endlich and W. Markenstein.
Under these names works were sold by, among others, Arnoud van Gilst, Jan Knikker (jr.), Aris Knikker and Henk Schallenberg. The signature Henk Welther was especially successful in North America; H. Endlich was used for the German market.
Welther died in 1947 under suspicious circumstances in The Hague; his money and art collection disappeared, and the case remained unsolved. After 1947 no new works signed by him could have appeared.
The work is generally in good condition and signed bottom right.
The work is in the corresponding list.
Towel size is 40 by 50 cm.
Work is carefully packed and shipped.
