Description from the seller

For sale: a breathtaking, large mallet bottle or early pressed cylindrical wine/liquor/rum bottle, also known as a general-use bottle, dating from the mid-18th century – I’d estimate somewhere between the 1700s and 1750. The bottle is free-blown and has no mold seams. The glass has a very deep olive-colored amber/black tint. Just below the smooth, slightly flaring lip there is a heavy applied rim with an upturned edge and a broad sandy-colored pontil mark. The bottle is about 24 cm tall and has a diameter of just under 10 cm. The bottle has a very attractive proportion that is characteristic of the late mallet/transition phase of the pressed cylinder, with a broad body, nice straight sides, a sharp shoulder and a narrow, pressed neck. The bottle is in excellent condition. I’m completely taken with the shape of this bottle. Very rare and highly sought after by collectors.
