Description from the seller

Lot including 1 glove box and 1 antique parlor game box – Whist & cards, blackened wood with gilding – Late 19th century

Description

Elegant late 19th-century salon game box made of blackened wood and decorated with golden borders and inscriptions, demonstrating careful craftsmanship and refined use.

The case opens to an interior compartment containing two sets of cards (not from the 19th century, with decorated backs in red and blue), as well as a set of tokens typical of board game accessories from the Belle Époque.

The set displays a beautiful original patina, with signs of use consistent with its age, without excessive restoration, making it an authentic and decorative object. However, it is important to note the visible signs of wear and age in the photos, as well as some missing parts, brass strips, and marquetry (on the top of the box near the brass strip and inside the glove box). I am also unsure if it originally had a lock.

Era

Late 19th – early 20th century

Materials

Blackened / lacquered wood, brass

State

Good overall condition considering its age.
Surface wear and micro-scratches
Light loss of gilding
Key absent
Functional hinges

Dimensions

Weight: 19.5cm x 13cm x 4cm
Gloves: 25.8cm x 9.5cm x 8cm

Photographs are an integral part of the description and precisely illustrate the condition of the object.
