Description from the seller
Pair of flowerpot holders shaped like begonia flowers, enamel painted on a copper support from the Qing Dynasty, featuring motifs of 'Joy in the plum blossom branches' and 'Auspicious phoenix and peonies.'
This pair of plant pots, shaped like a begonia, features an elegant and refined silhouette. The pieces were crafted using the technique of painted enamel over copper support, with a solid body. The rim of the mouth and the base reveal the metal, displaying golden flashes in some areas.
Decoration and technique
Interior: One piece features a light blue enamel interior as the background, with a central panel illustrating the motif 'Joy in the plum tree branches,' where a magpie perched on a plum branch appears vivid and expressive. The other has a lemon yellow enamel interior as the background, decorated with the theme 'Auspicious phoenix and peonies,' showcasing a phoenix with outstretched feathers and peonies of great splendor and elegance.
Exterior: The outer walls are completely decorated with an intertwined floral design, where each flower features varied shapes and colors (including crimson red, pink purple, emerald green, among others). The enamel is uniform and pure.
The base is enameled in white, without any marks or inscriptions, a characteristic typical of fine pieces from popular kilns of the mid to late Qing dynasty.
Dimensions: 14 x 9 cm
