René‑Jacques Lernon (1921–1998) – Painter of ports and the lights of Normandy
Born in 1921, René-Jacques Lernon belongs to this generation of French painters who were able to sensitively capture the landscapes of the North and Normandy. His work, largely dedicated to ports, the banks of the Seine, changing skies, and maritime scenes, reflects a keen eye for atmospheres and variations in light.
Lernon appreciates the views of Rouen, the cliffs, villages under the snow, but also storm scenes or lively beaches, which he depicts with a vivid palette and a strong sense of composition. His painting, decidedly figurative, blends realism and poetry, offering landscapes that are both solid and vibrant.
