Jean Sieurin (1931 – 2024)
Jean Sieurin belongs to this generation of Norman painters who managed to extend the spirit of the École de Rouen while bringing their own sensitivity to it. Born in 1931, he developed a strong liking for landscapes of his region at an early age, finding in the banks of the Seine, the ports, the valleys, and the changing skies of Normandy an inexhaustible source of inspiration. A sincere disciple of Albert Malet, he retains from him the frank light, the colorful harmonies, and a way of capturing the atmosphere rather than the detail.
His work, primarily composed of oils on canvas, is distinguished by a generous and vibrant palette, capable of capturing the softness of a winter landscape as well as the brilliance of a Breton seaside. His compositions, often panoramic, reflect a careful, almost contemplative gaze at the landscapes he traverses. Very present in the art market, regularly referenced and sought after, Sieurin leaves behind a coherent, luminous body of work that is deeply connected to the Norman land.
