Bronze Buddha Shakyamuni Bhumisparsha mudra from Laos, dating to over 200 years old, made by traditional lost‑wax casting in multiple parts with a perforated lotus base, measuring 41 cm high, 20.5 cm wide, 12.5 cm deep and weighing 4 kg, in good condition and unsigned, not sold with a stand.
Description from the seller
The work originates from the Laos/Northern Thailand region and is tied to the artistic tradition of the Kingdom of Lan Xang.
The statue was created using the traditional lost-wax casting technique, in multiple parts (head, body, and base separated), with substantial bronze thickness and a natural patina that has formed and layered over time.
The lotus-shaped base is perforated with ritual openings, typical of Southeast Asian votive sculptures, used for offerings or incense.
The facial features, the spiraled-curls hairstyle, the tall ushnisha, and the elongated proportions are consistent with production dating to the 19th century.
Conditions: good preservation for an antique object, with oxidation, signs of use and wear consistent with its age and the function of the piece. No obvious modern restorations detected.
Authentic collectible item of historical and artistic interest, belonging to the Buddhist tradition of Southeast Asia.
