Description from the seller
Ottaviani Magnitudo Artis – Signed & Hallmarked Silver-Plated Italian Lamp Base with Dragon/Wave Motif & Blue Crystal Cabochons
Exceptional vintage silver-plated table lamp base by the renowned Italian silversmith Ottaviani(celebrated under the “Magnitudo Artis” line for sculptural decorative objects, figurines, and lighting from the Mid-Century era).
Fully signed, labeled, and hallmarked – excellent provenance for collectors of Italian silverware and art metalwork.
The dramatic conical form features masterful repoussé and chased decoration: sinuous, wave-like or dragon/serpent motifs with finely textured, hammered scales and flowing bands outlined in blue enamel-like borders.
The design is dramatically accented by small blue crystals/cabochons(for jewel-like sparkle) set at strategic points, evoking glowing eyes or precious gems along the mythical creature's body. These crystals add a striking, luminous contrast against the polished silver-plated surface, elevating the piece from functional to sculptural art.
Heavy weighted circular foot for outstanding stability; rises to a slender central stem topped by a standard threaded socket with original cord
Hallmarks & marks (clearly visible in photos):
- Engraved script signature: Ottaviani
- Hexagonal hallmark: RM OTT (Roma registration + Ottaviani abbreviation) DG (Deposizione Galvanica = electroplated silver) .45(referencing 1945 founding/model era)
- Original label: OTTAVIANI MAGNITUDO ARTIS– OPERA DEPOSITATA 1945 – MADE IN ITALY – DEPOSITATA (protected/registered design since the company's post-war founding)
Ottaviani's Mid-Century decorative works (1950s–1970s) – especially sculptural pieces combining silver-plate, textured chasing, and enamel/crystal accents – are highly collectible.
Production: Mid-20th century, likely 1950s–1970s (peak creative period for Ottaviani's enamel/silver-combined decorative lighting and sculptures; "Opera Depositata 1945" denotes protected design heritage from founding year, not manufacture date).
Dimensions: 10.5 × 10.5 × 18 cm
Weight: 629 g – premium, stable quality
Condition: Very good vintage condition; attractive shine with natural patina
A rare, artistic Mid-Century Italian statement piece – perfect for collectors of vintage Italian silverware, sculptural lighting, bold 1960s/70s design, or Ottaviani/Magnitudo Artis objects featuring crystal/enamel details
Shipment: Will be packed with special care and tracked
