Description from the seller

Wooden bishop's figure, Germany/Austria, 1650-1730

Professionally shipped – more than 850 five-star reviews worldwide.

Monumental bishop figure, carefully carved from wood and featuring traces of old polychromy and gilding. The expressive facial expression is notably refined: the bishop looks slightly upward, a devotional pose typical of Baroque sculpture from South Germany and Austria. The hand on the chest emphasizes this restrained character. The robe is richly detailed, with the deeply cut stole, fine fringe, and the cross resting on the chest. The miter also shows carefully crafted details.

Height approximately 87cm. The figure shows clear signs of aging, including a missing arm, wear to the polychromy, and some historical restorations. The back is fully detailed, indicating that it was originally displayed as a free-standing piece or part of a larger ecclesiastical presentation. The surface was later completely treated with a dark protective layer, giving the original finish a more uniform tone.

Please carefully review the photos, as they are part of the description.

Sent with track & trace.
