苔野 (Kokeno) - Japanese for moss field - is a large, atmospheric painting that overs between landscape, memory and pure colour. Deep, almost forest-green tones anchor the upper and lower edges of the canvas, while a softer, pale band opens through the centre like a clearing in mist. The result is an image that suggests mossy ground at dusk, a distant tree line, or simply a quiet suspension of light over earth.

The work is built from many diluted layers of chromium oxide green, raw sienna and yellow ochre, allowing the pigments to sink into the weave of the canvas. Faint horizontal traces, subtle shifts in value and tiny specks remain visible, like the irregular textures of moss, soil and shadow. These unpolished details embody a wabi-sabi sensibility: an appreciation of patina, asymmetry and the quiet presence of time.
