Description from the seller
- Artist: Voltolino Fontani was an Italian painter of the twentieth century, born in Livorno in 1920 and who died prematurely in 1976. He is considered a significant figure of postwar Italian art, especially for his role in the evolution of expressionist and informal painting in Italy.
Voltolino Fontani is today recognized as: one of the protagonists of the Italian avant-garde of the postwar period, a link between Figurazione and Art Informel, and a central figure in the artistic history of Livorno and Tuscany.
- Dimensions with frame: 27x42 cm
- Style of the work: A pictorial painting that depicts an essential and evocative rural landscape, characterized by simplified architectural volumes and a barely hinted nature. In the foreground unfolds a restless terrain, rendered through tactile brushstrokes and earthy colors, while in the background rustic buildings with pitched roofs emerge, probably country houses or farm outbuildings.
The sky, wide and vibrant, is built with azure, rosy, and slate-blue tones, which create a delicate chromatic contrast and contribute to a suspended and contemplative atmosphere. The horizontal composition emphasizes the quiet of the landscape and the stability of the forms.
The brushwork is free and expressive, with dense and visible strokes, typical of Voltolino Fontani's painterly language, which combines figuration and modern synthesis. The work shows an intense chromatic exploration and a strong attention to the structure of space, more than to descriptive detail.
- Dating: the second half of the 20th century, probably late 1950s – early 1960s (In line with the mature expressionist-informal phase. Subsequently to the figurative period. Earlier than the more abstract works of the late 1960s.)
- Hand-signed in the lower left and signed on the back of the panel.
- Technique: Oil on panel
- Shipping: The painting is sold with its frame; however, it should be noted that the frame is not included in the price of the artwork and is provided free of charge. Therefore, in the event of any damage or breakage during transport, Galleria Fidanda is exempt from any liability.
