Description from the seller

Bronze busts of centaurs, over 70 cm.
The pair of marble statues from which the molds originate was discovered during excavations at Villa Adriana, in Tivoli, in 1737, and are currently housed at the Capitoline Museums. They are signed: Aristeas Kai Papias Aphrodisias. Aristeas and Papias were two sculptors from the school of Aphrodisias (modern Geyre, in Turkey), renowned for its marble quarries and, consequently, for its sculptors.
In turn, these statues, dating to the Adriane age (117-138 AD), are believed to be based on Hellenistic models, most likely bronze, with an approximate date in the mid-4th century BC.
The old centaur and the young one were meant to represent human attitudes towards love.

Dimensions: approximately 70x42x15cm.
Origin: Italy
Epoch: end XX sec.
