Description from the seller
Sculpture in marble powder depicting the head of Eros.
The Hellenistic-origin work was discovered in 1772 in Centocelle (Rome), from which it takes its name; it is also known as the Eros of Centocelle.
It was acquired by Pope Clement XIV and consequently displayed in the Hall of Busts and Statues of the Vatican Museums, where it is still kept today.
In 1800, for a brief period, the Eros of Centocelle was also exhibited at the Louvre after Napoleon Bonaparte's acquisition from Pope Pius VI as part of the Treaty of Tolentino.
Professional academic sculpture, completely handcrafted by professional artisans. A piece from the Museum plaster cast collection. The craftsmanship has very ancient origins and is entirely executed by artists in the sculptural sector, made with materials such as scagliola and Carrara marble dust.
The indicated dimensions include the base, if present.
The shipping is entrusted to a packaging company (professional packaging).
