Annapurna - Bronze - India - 15th-16th centuries

Annapurna, a bronze piece of excellent workmanship, possibly from Orissa or somewhere in the South. The form, very stylized and pure, blends with the patina of time to give a sense of calm and depth. She carries the ladle of plenty typical of the goddess. Dressed in a bodice, with bare legs and wearing jewelry and anklets. The parallel lines of the ladle, the legs in the lotus position, and the contour of her breasts form a succession of horizontal lines that give stability to the figure and endow it with that serenity that is transmitted not only through her face but through the whole figure.
