Description from the seller
The tenth enlarged edition (the first was in 1728) of this famous recipe book and pharmacopoeia treatise. It is a comprehensive, reasoned list of medicinal preparations used at the time, with detailed instructions on how to prepare them and their dosages. The 'Treatise on Drugs' is also very interesting.
Il Capello, who died in Venice in 1764, descended from a Venetian noble family that included scholars, philosophers, diplomats, and career military personnel since the Middle Ages. A pharmacist by profession, he managed the Spezieria de' Tre Monti in Campo Sant'Apollinare, in his hometown.
Giovanni Battista Capello, Pharmaceutical-chemical lexicon containing the most used remedies of today... Revised and enlarged tenth edition by Lorenzo Capello, his nephew..., Venice, Antonio Graziosi, 1775.
PP.: IV, XII, 268. COMPLETE.
Sample with cards in overall fairly good condition, showing signs of use and aging, with widespread foxing. Some stains and small wormholes that sometimes also damage some letters of the text.
Modern binding in half leather with handwritten title on the spine, very well preserved. The front white endpaper is missing. Red edges.
