Decorative historiserend brass plate with gold leaf gilding, dating to ca. 1850–1900, diameter 19 cm, height 1 cm, weight 669 g, likely of German or Austrian origin.
Description from the seller
Gilded brass historiated decorative plate with a knight on horseback – ca. 1880–1910
Beautifully gilded brass decorative plate in a historicist style, probably manufactured in Germany or Austria around 1880–1910.
In the center, a knight on horseback is depicted, rearing up and with a staff or lance in hand. The scene aligns with the romantically medieval iconography that was highly favored in the late 19th century.
The border is richly decorated with pseudo-heraldic symbols and fanciful inscriptions. Images such as a church, a tower, a flowerpot with flowers, a lion, a goat, and artisanal symbols are interspersed with texts that appear Latin or German, but do not form a coherent historical whole. This is typical of decorative boards from this period, meant to convey a stately and historic look.
Material
Gilded brass (gold leaf)
Dimensions & weight
Diameter: 19 cm

Remark
This object is a decorative, historizing ornamental plate and is not linked to a specific noble family, city, or order. Its value lies in the material, the rich decoration, and the authentic patina.
