Two ornaments - Wood - India - 1800

Pair of bookends made with antique wooden moldings sourced from an Indian temple.
The woods are carved with skill and care. The essence is a hardwood. Both weigh a total of 3.5 kilograms.
The two sides are similar, but not identical. The side that was probably visible in the temple is very finely finished and deeply carved. The less visible side has a more rudimentary sculpture. There are still some traces of coloring.
The part that remains in contact with the books (see photo) shows a small square recessed section, which represented a notch in the temple’s structure. Both measure approximately 20 centimeters in length, about 14 centimeters in height, and about 9 centimeters in thickness. The measurements are not precise as these are ancient elements. Additionally they are hand-carved, so there may be slight differences in measurements with a maximum error range of about 1 centimeter. They show the proper signs of age, such as chips, missing pieces, and imperfections. Such characteristics are not defects, but virtues.
