Description from the seller
Large serving dish with lid in silver-plated metal and glass Marinex – Italy / Brazil, second half of the 20th century
Description
Elegant and dramatic large serving platter with lid, consisting of a silvered metal frame and a Marinex heat-resistant glass container, Made in Brazil.
The frame in silvered metal, presumably Italian-made, is characterized by a harmonious and balanced silhouette, with broad side arms integrated into the structure, which lend solidity and a prominent presence on the table. The workmanship is clean and regular, typical of quality production from the second half of the 20th century (approximately 1965–1985).
Distinctive decorative element is the duck-shaped knob placed on the lid: the duck is shaped with a naturalistic taste, with a rounded body, head slightly tilted and well-defined details, giving the object an elegant yet at the same time original and decorative character. This type of zoomorphic motif was particularly appreciated in tableware and service items of the period, combining functionality and design.
The inner glass, marked Marinex – Made in Brazil, is a high-quality industrial glass, heat-resistant and intended for food use. The glass is period-appropriate for the frame and appears perfectly fitted to the metal structure.
Stile
The object's style is reminiscent of an elegant vintage taste, with mid-century influences, designed for a formal dining setting or for service on convivial occasions. The overall piece is decorative but not excessive, with a good balance between functionality and visual presence.
Usage
Originally intended for table service, the object could be used as:
Per serving, cover charge.
container for hot or cold dishes,
serving terrine.
Today it is suitable for both practical use and as a striking decorative element.
Dimensions
Body height: about 7.3 cm
Height of the knob (duck): about 4 cm
Total height: about 11.5 cm
Total length from handle to handle: about 43 cm
Plate dimensions: about 38 × 27 cm
Total weight: about 2.7 kg
Conditions
Good overall condition
The silver-plated metal shows a light patina from age with slight surface darkening, consistent with its age and use, without any significant loss of plating.
The glass is intact, without cracks or chips.
Conclusions
Important and decorative vintage table centerpiece, large in size and heavy, with an elegant mount in silvered metal of probable Italian origin and Brazilian Marinex glass. A functional and scenographic piece, ideal for collectors of 20th-century tableware or for those seeking a distinctive element for their table.
