Description from the seller
This hand-painted Russian Palekh lacquerware pencil case is a beautiful example of traditional Russian folklore artistry from the late Soviet period (circa 1985–1995).
The winter scene with a troika and sled is painted with great precision in bright colors on a deep-black, high-gloss lacquer base. The details, movement, and color construction make this an object that immediately stands out, both as a decorative piece on a desk or in a display cabinet.
The box is intended as a desk case for pens and writing implements and has an elongated recess on the inside. The object is hand-painted and bears multiple Cyrillic signatures, including the title “Тройка” and a Palekh designation. This points to workshop work, which is common for authentic Palekh lacquerware from this period.
The condition ranges from good to very good: the painting is exceptionally well preserved and the varnish has a beautiful, deep gloss. Inside there are light signs of wear, consistent with age and use. No damage or restorations.
An authentic and decorative collectible for lovers of Russian lacquerware, Palekh miniatures, or classic folklore performances. This type of pen case is becoming increasingly difficult to find in this condition and is ideal as a gift or as a supplement to an existing collection.
