Description from the seller

Antique Baccarat “Diamants Biseaux” (also known as “Diamants Bevels”) Night Service Tray

Offered for sale is a finely crafted vintage tray from the renowned French crystal manufacturer Baccarat, model “Diamants Biseaux”, also referred to as “Diamants Bevels”. This model dates back to the late 19th century and features the signature beveled diamond pattern (“biseaux” meaning bevels in French), creating a striking textured relief that beautifully refracts light.

The tray is made from classic French lead crystal, known for its brilliance and clarity, crafted using the moulure technique - a molded pressed relief pattern characteristic of the period, which adds depth and elegance to the piece.

This tray was originally part of a night service set (Service de nuit), a luxury accessory in aristocratic and wealthy bourgeois bedrooms during the late 1800s and early 1900s. Such trays were used to serve water, liqueurs, or light refreshments during the night, allowing owners to quench thirst without leaving their rooms.

Highlights and Historical Significance:
• Baccarat - one of the world’s most prestigious crystal manufacturers, founded in 1764, renowned for exquisite craftsmanship and timeless designs
• The “Diamants Biseaux” pattern represents a pinnacle of 19th-century decorative glass art, combining technical skill with artistic elegance
• Crafted from lead crystal, which gives the piece its distinctive sparkle and quality
• The moulure technique reflects industrial innovation and mastery in pressed crystal production of the era
• Exemplifies the Art Nouveau style, characterized by elegant, decorative patterns and a refined play of light, typical of late 19th to early 20th century design
• Objects like this tray illustrate the lifestyle and refined tastes of the European aristocracy and upper bourgeoisie in that era
• Highly sought after by collectors of antique crystal, Baccarat pieces are recognized as valuable historical artifacts and investment items
• The combination of rarity, brand prestige, and excellent preservation enhances the tray’s appeal on the collectors’ market
• A technical drawing of this model was discovered in the 1893 Baccarat catalog, confirming its provenance and design authenticity

Condition:
This antique Baccarat tray shows scratches and chips, consistent with its age of over 120 years. These signs of wear testify to its genuine use in the past, adding character and authenticity to this historic piece. Despite these imperfections, the tray remains structurally sound and visually striking, preserving its original charm and decorative appeal.

This tray is a remarkable collector’s piece that combines historical importance, exquisite design, and practical beauty — ideal for connoisseurs of fine French crystal and decorative arts.
