Description from the seller
Louis Vuitton returns to the scene with the Celebrating Monogram project, entrusting its most classic bags in monogram canvas to acclaimed artists and designers who reinterpret the house's logo print. This time it’s Rei Kawakubo’s turn.
The stylist first discovered Vuitton bags through the house's first store in Japan in 1978, and since then has appreciated their allure, which she now seeks to subvert with a very personal approach.
The designer, applying the refined yet unconventional aesthetic that also characterizes the Comme des Garçons lines she created. The model she chose to refresh is the Sac Plat, the most minimal bag among Vuitton’s collections. The designer has perforated it, literally, with large, asymmetric holes.
A radical and very peculiar approach, there’s no denying it, especially because the holes are real and you can see through them. Inside the bag, in fact, there is a canvas sack to keep the objects safe from falling out through the holes.
The idea behind this creation is to break with the classic conventions of the monogram, which is fractured in the search for something new and different, while starting from a traditional and classic piece—a true icon.
