Beautiful pair of Art Deco bookends – birds – signed "TED" – circa 1930
Description:
Offered: a splendid pair of original French Art Deco bookends from the 1920s/30s. This set is an iconic example of early 20th-century decorative art and is in a beautiful, authentic condition.
Features
Depiction: Stylized birds (herons/pelicans) resting on palm leaves, rendered in the clean, dynamic lines that are so characteristic of Art Deco.
Material: The figures are made from high-quality spelter (regule) with a refined two-tone patina (dark gray/black and green-bronze).
Pedestal: Both figures stand on a solid base of exquisitely veined Rouge Languedoc marble.
Signature: Signed with 'TED' in the metal, a well-known mark of quality cast metalwork from the French Art Deco period.
Condition: In good vintage condition with a beautiful, well-worn patina. The marble is still very neat. On the bottom there are still the original paper remnants and inventory numbers from a previous collection/store.
