Description from the seller

Hikari Shimoda

Born in Nagano, Japan in 1984.

After graduating from Saga University of the Arts in Kyoto, she became a lecturer at Nagano Art College in 2008. Shortly after, she was selected for a solo exhibition at Motto Gallery in Tokyo, after which she became more active in international galleries. Influenced by Japanese manga and anime from her youth, her works often depict a world where cuteness and horror coexist, using vibrant coloring techniques reminiscent of cartoons. Shimoda's works often depict innocent children in bright candy colors; however, behind the cute style lies a profoundly dark and melancholic theme. Currently, her work is exhibited in galleries worldwide, including in Japan, the United States, Canada, and Europe.
