A decorative stoneware vase in green, about 23 cm tall and 16 cm wide, by Villeroy & Boch (Mettlach), featuring the Paon peacock decor with underglaze copper transfer and hand colour, dating from the 1980s as a modern reissue of a Jugendstil design.
Description from the seller
A decorative vase is offered from the venerable manufactory Villeroy & Boch, made in Germany. The vase bears the well-known décor “Paon” (French for peacock), a historical motif that was originally designed around 1900 in the Art Nouveau style and was later reissued by Villeroy & Boch.
The present specimen is a later production from the second half of the 20th century, probably from the 1980s. It is not an antique original, but a high-quality reissue of a classic Mettlach Jugendstil decor.
The vase was manufactured from stoneware (faience). The decoration was created using the underglaze copper‑plate printing process and was subsequently hand‑coloured (hand‑painted). This combination of printing technique and manual work is typical for the high‑quality Mettlach production and gives the piece its distinctive character. The central motif features a stylized peacock, complemented by finely worked floral ornamentation.
The glaze is fully preserved, even, and free of flaking. There are no cracks, no restorations, and no craquelure visible. The colors are clear and well preserved. Overall, the vase is in a very good, well-maintained condition for its age (see photos).
