Pair of Kashmir decorative boxes, made of papier‑mâché and hand‑painted in the second half of the 20th century, lacquered rectangular boxes with floral designs, 8 cm high, 18 cm wide and 11 cm deep, originating from India and in good used condition.
Description from the seller
Pair of Kashmira decorative boxes, made of papier-mâché and hand-painted during the second half of the 20th century. Rectangular in shape with a lacquered surface, both feature elaborate floral compositions with stylized botanical motifs, executed with great precision and rich color. One stands out for its light yellow background with a more airy arrangement of the flowers, while the other shows a darker and more saturated background, with a denser and more vibrant floral design.
These pieces reflect the artisan tradition of the Kashmir region, known for its refined painting technique on papier-mâché, applied to decorative and utilitarian objects. Their common use includes storing small objects, jewelry, or mementos, although they also function as ornamental elements for their aesthetic value. The combination of a glossy lacquer finish, vivid palette, and floral motifs makes them representative examples of Indo-Persian folk art reinterpreted in the twentieth century.
Certified shipping and good packaging.
