A beautiful painting of "Memento Mori", executed in oil on a plywood panel, probably dating from the mid-20th century, originating from ecclesiastical circles in Salento (Southern Italy).
It's not signed; it comes with its elegant original giltwood frame.
The indicated dimensions refer to the work including the frame; the painting alone measures 23 × 17 cm.
A human skull is depicted resting on a surface, and above it a cartouche bearing the Latin inscription SIC VITA EST (Thus is life), symbols that remind man of the brevity of life and its inevitable end.
The quality of the painting is very high, as you can see from the photos.
Warning: the artwork shows the inevitable signs of time, the frame is heavily retouched, but there is no serious damage that would ruin its beauty.
