Description from the seller
A very fine antique 4/4 violin, labeled Joseph Ceruti filius Joannis Baptistae Cremonensis fecit anno 1839. The instrument is in ready to play condition with tears, small professionally repaired cracks on the top and sides, good ebony and rosewood set up, illegible stamped old master bridge (Leeds?) and new strings. The violin has an excellent irregular grained spruce of the top and two pieces back of narrow flamed maple with matched sides. Rich golden amber varnish shows an amazing wooden choice. The whole length of the violin is 586 mm and the back 356 mm. The width of the upper bouts: 168 mm; middle bouts: 116 mm; lower bouts: 205 mm. The sound is very deep, rich, sweet. Violins and bows described as 'certified' or 'attributed' include images of their certificates and are therefore considered to have a higher degree of documented certainty regarding maker, origin, and age than instruments described only as 'labelled' (violins) or 'stamped' (bows), for which we provide no guarantee of any kind.
