Description from the seller
SIGNED - THE SOMNAMBULIST. RALPH GIBSON, TRUE 1970 ORIGINAL EDITION, LUSTRUM PRESS
Phenomenal photography book by Ralph Gibson, his first grand masterpiece of photography, photographs printed in duotone reproductions over about fifty pages, previously unpublished photographs that are at once sophisticated and surreal, foreshadowing Gibson's later editions: "Déjà vu, Days at Sea".
Genuine original 1970 edition, Lustrum Press, with a signature under the title on the title page by Ralph Gibson, complete book, no pages missing, in very good overall condition but not perfect—please see photos. One of the great masterpieces of photography from the 1960s–1970s, signed Ralph Gibson!
Grand masterpiece of 20th-century photography, Gibson is regarded for his work "The Somnambulist" as a master of artistic and surreal photography. Contemplative and unpublished photographs, a true marvel of photography, an utterly photogenic book, in a never-before-seen signed edition by Ralph Gibson, and with a beautiful provenance from a former art collector from Minnesota!
Some descriptive elements:
His images often incorporate fragments with erotic and mysterious undertones, building narrative meaning through contextualization and surreal juxtaposition. The Somnambulist is Gibson's first masterpiece of photography, few copies ever got signed by the artist in 1970
As photogenic as Mark Cohen, Koudelka, Ronis, or Cartier-Bresson, an ultra-photogenic book and perfectly unpublished photographs!
A one-of-a-kind, grandiose edition, signed by Ralph Gibson, particularly photogenic and captivating!
Condition: good.
Overall condition good, not perfect, wear from age and pencil marks, probably an old sale price noted at the top of the title page and on the page numbering; see photos. Otherwise a fine copy with an indelible ballpoint signature by Ralph Gibson under the title on the title page.
Terms and General Information
Very well-packaged parcel + fast delivery + premium delivery options + 100% insurance of the auction value + live tracking transmitted immediately upon shipment + delivery insurance + free shipping costs for all additional lots won in the same auction.
