Stylized bronze pendant titled Cameleon stilizzato from Ghana, associated with Akan culture (Ashanti/Asante); weight 50 g, dimensions 7 cm by 4 cm, with wear visible and signs of age.
Description from the seller
Very interesting pendant made of bronze using the lost-wax casting technique and depicts a strongly stylized chameleon, more symbolic than naturalistic. The body is elongated and compact, with a slightly arched section designed to follow the shape of the wearer's chest. The back is marked by a sequence of reliefs or parallel incisions that evoke the scales and armor of the animal, rendered in a geometric and rhythmic manner.
In particular, the Akan peoples (especially the Ashanti/Asante) of Ghana were masters of the lost-wax casting technique and often used stylized animal forms, laden with meaning.
symbolic.
On the surface there is an irregular brown-green patina, with traces of oxidation that attest to the object's antiquity and its prolonged use. A small suspension ring, integrated into the back, indicates its function as an amulet or ritual ornament. In the African cultural context, the crocodile symbolizes strength, ancestral power, protection and the connection with the waters and the spiritual world, making the pendant not only decorative but also rich in ritual meaning.
