Description from the seller
Ode Bertrand, "Plan" – Acrylic on paper
A major French artist, Ode Bertrand is now recognized as an essential reference in abstract geometry in France and Europe. This original work on paper strongly testifies to the precision and the rigor that characterize her entire body of work.
Created in acrylic on high-quality paper, the composition stands out for its deft execution and its remarkable visual presence, highlighting the formal rigor inherent to the artist. A unique work dated and signed on the back, presented with a mat (30x30 cm).
A former student and then assistant of Aurélie Nemours, Ode Bertrand drew deeply from her teacher's teachings, inheriting uncompromising rigor and radical formal purification. While developing her own plastic language, she has, for more than forty years, pursued an exacting research, essentially centered on black and white. This color body of work is exceptional.
Her work rests mainly on drawing: she systematically traces a grid of straight lines on a white surface, then applies black in a graphical operation designed to structure space. This rigorous methodology, constant throughout her body of work, gives her compositions a distinctive visual tension and architectural clarity.
