Gertrud von Berg (born 1919), German sculptor

Gertrud von Berg was born in 1919 and received her rigorous training at the State Academy of Fine Arts Stuttgart, among others with Alfred Lörcher, as well as in Munich with Bernhard Bleeker, one of the formative sculptors of classical modernism in Germany. This education situates her directly within the tradition of the renowned South German sculpture schools of the 20th century.

Her oeuvre comprises mainly figurative bronze sculptures, distinguished by elegant stylization, high craftsmanship, and a pronounced interest in movement and bodily balance. Particularly sought after are her dancing nude representations and paired figures, in which dynamism and harmony are condensed into a timeless form. Her works fuse classical sculpture with modern clarity and are today primarily represented in the upscale collection and auction market.
