Vecchio e bambino, a XIXth‑century oil on canvas portrait from Italy, hand signed by Raffaele Frigerio (1875–1948), with a period carved wooden and gesso frame, 67 by 86 cm and 4.1 kg, sold with frame.
Description from the seller
Technical Description Subject: An intimate and warm genre scene depicting an elderly man with a white beard while lighting or arranging his pipe with the help of a smiling young boy wearing a red hat. The work captures a moment of intergenerational complicity in a rustic setting.
Technique: Oil on canvas.
Period: Late 19th - Early 20th century.
Frame: An imposing period frame in wood and gilded plaster, richly worked with acanthus leaf motifs and floral relief decorations.
Signature: bears the signature of R. Frigerio
Condition
The piece is overall in good aesthetic condition, but with some signs of wear that attest to its originality:
Canvas: The tension of the canvas is modest. On the back, the original weave is visible and the frame is made of antique wood.
Superficial Damage: As visible from the detail photos (DSC_0048, DSC_0049), there are a few small color losses and light abrasions in the upper central part of the canvas. There are also superficial white residues (likely paint or plaster dust) that may require professional cleaning.
