A bronze Kapala with a three‑part structure (decorative stand, Kapala bowl, and lid with a vajra knop) from Tibet in the late 20th century, measuring 15 cm high by 10 cm wide by 10 cm deep and in good condition.
Description from the seller
This is a kapala (skull-shaped offering bowl) with a lid, mounted on a decorative stand.
Characteristics of this piece:
Structure: Three-part – an ornate stand with three legs, the kapala bowl itself, and a lid with a vajra knob.
Decoration: Extensive relief decorations with
traditional Tibetan motifs - probably makaras (mythical sea creatures), floral patterns and possibly protective symbols
Vajra-top: The lid is crowned with a vajra, an important symbol in Tibetan Buddhism.
In Tibetan Buddhist practices, the kapala was used for:
The offering of ritual liquids during tantric ceremonies
Symbolic offerings to protective deities
Meditation practices in which transformation and emptiness are central.
