Aleix Albareda - QUOD IX ( ALMOST WITHOUT FLAW ) XL

The work presents a duplicated and fused face, divided vertically by a sequence of geometric voids that interrupt the continuity of the image. This central fracture acts as a symbolic crack: a space of absence that separates and, at the same time, connects both halves of the subject. The face does not confront its reflection, but rather a parallel version of itself, prompting a reflection on fractured identity and the coexistence of multiple selves.

The color palette suggests a dense and organic materiality, close to skin, to wear, and to the primal. The vertical lines that run across the surface recall architectural structures, scars, or records of time, reinforcing the idea of accumulated memory and lived experience. The painting seems built up in layers, as if the face emerged from layers of history and matter.

The eyes, intensely expressive and almost identical in both halves, establish an emotional anchor. They look at the viewer with a disturbing calm, inviting them to confront the notion of the unity of the self. There is no hierarchy between the two faces: neither dominates, neither imposes; both exist in constant tension.

The white blocks that interrupt the central axis introduce a visual rhythm that alludes to digital fragmentation, to error, to the void of information, or to silence. These spaces without images function as pauses, as forced breaths within an identity that tries to recombine itself.

Taken together, the work proposes a reflection on duality, internal fracture, and the contemporary construction of the subject. The square, large-scale format intensifies the direct confrontation with the viewer, turning the encounter with the artwork into an exercise of recognition, estrangement, and self-observation.
