A brief history of Hermès
When Thierry Hermès was 36 years old, he opened his small shop as a master saddler in Paris. His work, at that time, consisted of designing and manufacturing harnesses and other equipment for horses. Thirty years after the opening, the maison received the first-class medal at the Exposition Universelle of 1867. From that moment, success was meteoric: the Tsar Nicholas II ordered that all of its leather goods be used in his stables. Thus he built a prestigious clientele, including kings and presidents from around the world.
Years later, Adolphe and Émile Maurice, Thierry's grandsons, gave the brand a new boost by developing useful leather goods while they worked on export routes. The brand quickly became the benchmark for bags, belts, and gloves. The two brothers innovated in every field; for example, they were the first to import the zipper into France. Soon, in addition to innovation, the brand's diversification paid off: fragrances, jewelry, lifestyle, and, more recently, makeup.
