Description from the seller

Beautiful porcelain dinner set produced by the prestigious Italian manufacturer Rometti.

The set is complete for 6 people and consists of:
6 flat plates
6 deep plates
6 appetizer dishes
6 contour glasses
6 bowls
One round tray
1 salad bowl

Each piece of the service is decorated with a Potentilla nitida decal that echoes some famous designs, such as Botanica by Villeroy & Boch.
Each plate in the set features distinctive, exaggerated shapes, typical of Rometti's bold style.

Excellent overall condition, only one lunette shows a defect highlighted in the photo.

A story that shapes a century of art, territory, and passion. Ceramiche Rometti was founded in 1927 in Umbertide, from the insight of the skilled ceramist Settimio Rometti who turns to the collaboration of his nephews, Aspromonte Rometti and Dante Baldelli. In an atmosphere of cultural ferment akin to the avant-gardes of the early 20th century, the dream to be realized has a precise and ambitious form: Rometti will become the synthesis of art, craft, and industrial production, a new way of reading expressivity and of highlighting the potential of ceramics.
Freeing themselves from all formal constraint, the artists experiment with sculpted figures, vases, lamps, plates, limited-edition graffiti-inspired pieces and paintings, making uniqueness their strength. Rometti’s style is the eclectic, timeless fruit of an artisanal and artistic practice in which the impulses of European avant-gardes fuse with an emotional attachment to the Umbrian territory and its traditions. This fortunate union enhances the techniques and materials kept by local artisans: natural clay drawn from caves bathed by the Tiber River, hand-forming on the wheel, objects engobed with a special plaster that highlights the depth of colors and decorations, these are part of the recipe of uniqueness that has made Rometti pieces among the most sought-after by collectors worldwide. Over the decades and the artistic-cultural currents, but also through the ups and downs of the company’s history, Rometti remains an essential reference point in ceramic art, collaborating with leading design names and earning numerous accolades, including the gold medal at the International Exposition in Nice and various awards at the Milan Triennale. With the arrival of Massimo Monini, a patron and entrepreneur of art, and Jean-Christophe Clair, a versatile and visionary artistic director, Rometti began in 2012 a new and prosperous phase, still ongoing. The extraordinary skill of the two manager-artists lies in finding a perfect balance between a contemporary vision and the valorization of the Rometti heritage. The Manifattura boasts prestigious collaborations with brands and artists who have chosen its uniqueness to produce exclusive pieces and collections. B&B, Roche Bobois, Cartier, Borbonese, Fresh and many other major international design brands, names such as Ambrogio Pozzi, Liliane Lijn, Sergio Fiorentino, Chantal Thomass, Studio MAMO, Christian Tortu, Ugo La Pietra and Kenzo Takada: a constellation that shapes the past and present history of the iconic Rometti brand, fueling the collector’s pursuit for pieces that have enriched almost a century of art.

Seller's Story

My name is Riccardo, I recently graduated in Art History from the University of Florence and I am passionate about porcelain. From tableware to artist vases, from figurines to tea and coffee sets, I am fascinated by the mastery and the ability of great artisans and designers who shape this so fragile material, turning a raw mass into masterpieces with a story to tell. During my years at university I became interested in the history of 19th- and 20th-century tableware art; today, every day, I work with prestigious porcelain pieces that always have something to say to me and to those who purchase them. Of my work I love that I can discover more about the objects I find as I travel around Italy, always learning something new. I always strive to convey to my clients this passion I have for the objects I sell, certain that each one of them has a story to tell: the story of who created it, the story of who preserved it, and the story of who will give it a new life.
