Description from the seller
VAL SAINT LAMBERT – Pair of candlestick holders 'Sacré-Cœur'
The Virgin Mary and Jesus Christ
Satin-pressed crystal – Early 20th century
An exceptional pair of pressed-crystal candle holders crafted by the prestigious workshops of Val Saint Lambert, featuring one the Virgin Mary with the Immaculate Heart and the other Jesus Christ with the Sacred Heart—iconic imagery of sacred art from the Belle Époque.
Each piece features a finely molded sculpture, resting on a richly ornamental base adorned with cherubs with outstretched wings, positioned at each foot, lending the whole a strong symbolic dimension and a notable sculptural presence.
The bobeche is delicately decorated with herbaceous motifs, evoking oak leaves or stylized foliage, adding a naturalistic elegance typical of the decorative vocabulary of the period.
The circular base is adorned with raised medallions bearing the traditional theological symbols:
– the Heart,
– La Croix,
– l’Ancre,
the respective symbols of Charity, Faith, and Hope, perfectly integrated into the composition and enhancing the spiritual reach of the whole.
Each candlestick measures 23 cm in height and 13 cm in diameter. The satin-finished crystal catches the light softly, highlighting the finesse of the draperies, the precision of the faces, and the quality of craftsmanship characteristic of Val Saint Lambert's religious productions at the dawn of the 20th century.
Rare and decorative, this ensemble constitutes a remarkable testimony to Belgian glassmaking know-how and to the importance of religious iconography in the decorative arts of the period.
Condition: very good state of preservation, with no notable damage, in good condition despite its age.
A pair sought after by collectors of antique crystal, sacred art, and Val Saint Lambert works.
Images are part of the description. Delivery to a relay point.
