Facsimile edition of Campi Phlegræi by William Hamilton, issued in 1985 by Banco di Napoli, bound in half leather with gold tooling, an illustrated edition with colour plates and fold-out maps, 200 pages, measuring 49 x 35 cm, in very good condition.
Description from the seller
I am selling a splendid facsimile edition of the famous "Campi Phlegraei" by Sir William Hamilton. Published in 1985 by Banco di Napoli under the care of the Neapolitan Publishing Society. It is a faithful and very high-quality reproduction of the original from 1776 (and the 1779 supplement), a fundamental work on volcanology in the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies.
Features
Year: 1985 (MCMLXXXV).
Binding: Half-leather with gold titles and foliate/ornamental tooling on the spine, executed by the bookbinder Salvatore Tonti.
Paper: Fine paper from Cartiere Fedrigoni.
Illustrations: A rich iconographic apparatus with color reproductions of Pietro Fabris's gouaches (views of Vesuvius, the Gulf of Naples, minerals, eruptions).
89 pages, 59 illustrated plates, Supplement: 29 pages and a further 5 plates.
Condition: Excellent. Interior fresh and clean, binding solid. No obvious defects to report (see photo).
