Description from the seller
Horacio Lengo Martinez, born in the Malagan town of Torremolinos in 1838, studied in Cádiz, where he came into contact with the artistic world through Serafín Martínez del Rincón. After traveling to Paris, where he was a disciple of León Bonnat and participated in the exhibitions of 1875 and 1876 in that city, he presented his works at various national exhibitions in Spain during the 1880s — at the 1881 exhibition, he was awarded a second-class medal.
During the first half of the 1880s, he was a recognized and prolific painter, whose paintings were bought at a weight of gold.
Among her works are La corde sensible, Manrique, Leonora, Aves de amor, Rosas, ¡Amor... Alegría... flores de un día!, a portrait of Alejandro Pidal y Mon from 1888, La hechicera, El champagne, La manzanilla, Después de la guerra, Julieta y Romeo or Él y Ella, El sueño del estudiante, Opiniones contrarias, Una emboscada, Una moraga, and El lector de la fe.
Your works are represented throughout the continent, and outside Europe, this piece creates an atmosphere of light and color while demonstrating technical strength. It belonged to a family of Spanish origin based in Madrid. It is sold with a carved and gilded frame, missing some parts. The painting, in general, is in good condition with some restoration done some time ago. The measurements without the frame are 80x45.
