Item 088. Ancient Greek 4th-1st BC Earrings

Exquisite Hellenistic Gold Pendant – 4th to 1st Century BC Condition: Restored. Some parts are new. A remarkably well-preserved and finely crafted gold pendant dating to the Hellenistic period (4th–1st century BC), a time when Greek artistry flourished under the influence of Alexander the Great’s legacy. This delicate piece, measuring 37.7 mm in height and weighing 1.22 grams, displays the refined elegance characteristic of the period. The central element is a floral rosette with eight detailed petals, radiating from a raised circular boss, possibly symbolizing the sun or divine light. From this central flower extend three finely braided arms terminating in small rosettes and intricate openwork floral designs. The level of detail and craftsmanship is outstanding, with each element clearly shaped and defined, reflecting the aesthetics and religious symbolism of the time. Made entirely of high-purity gold, this pendant has survived in exceptional condition, retaining a radiant luster that enhances its intricate design. The loop at the top is intact and original, showing a practical yet elegant approach to personal adornment in the ancient world. This piece was most likely worn as a decorative pendant or as part of a larger ceremonial necklace, possibly signifying status, devotion, or affiliation with a deity. Whether as a votive offering or personal ornament, it speaks of a refined and deeply symbolic culture. A truly beautiful artifact for any discerning collector of ancient jewellery. If you like rare, elegant, and historic pieces, this one brings pure cachet.
