Gerrit David Labots (1869 - 1959) - Kerstrozen en hulst

This flower still life by Gerrit Davis Labots titled: "Kerstroos en hulst" has a canvas size of 27 x 35 cm and is the pendant of the still life "Narcissen in een vaas" with virtually the same size and frame, also in this auction. The painting is, like the frame, in good condition.

Gerrit David Labots was born in Kralingen, Rotterdam, attended the academy there, and lived and worked his entire life in the port city. He studied, among others, with J.H.F.C. Nachtweh and G.H. Breitner. His oeuvre includes landscapes and portraits, but he most preferred painting still lifes and flowers in a clear and powerful color palette. Labots considered himself a craftsman who did not partake in all sorts of experiments, but adhered to the naturalistic-realistic style from his academy days.
