Delightful oil painting by the Russian painter Nikolai Timkov (1912-1993) depicting the banks of the Neva near Saint Petersburg, animated with figures and a horse.
The work features very pretty colors in an impressionistic style.

BIOGRAPHY :
Born August 12, 1912, Nikolai Timkov began his studies at the Rostov-on-Don Art Technicum between 1927 and 1931. He continued his studies at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture from 1933 to 1939. He was active in Moscow from 1930 to 1933, then he settled in Leningrad, where he spent the bulk of his career.
Timkov participated in numerous exhibitions across the Soviet Union, including the prestigious All-Union Art Exhibition in Moscow in 1955, and the Soviet Russia Exhibition in Moscow in 1960.
Timkov is one of the most well-known Russian painters of the 20th century.
Although he was trained in the academic tradition of Russian realism at the Academy of Arts, Timkov developed his unique style, characterized by impressionist brushstrokes and original compositional solutions.
Their works are exhibited in all the major Russian museums, notably the Russian Museum in Saint Petersburg and the Tretyakov State Gallery in Moscow.

Signed TIMKOV on the back of the canvas.
