Description from the seller
A charming painting by Eugène PETIT (1838-1886) depicting a Gordon Setter and an English Setter at rest in the heather as ducks take flight.
The varied hues of the vegetation create a striking contrast in the artwork and give it a wild look.
Eugène PETIT was a pupil of Ed. Muller and Dieterle. He made his debut at the Paris Salon in 1863 and won a medal in 1873.
He specialized in paintings of still lifes of flowers and fruits, and he is also known for his hunting scenes.
Their works are present in the museums of Carcassonne, Compiègne, Courtrai, Rouen, Saint-Etienne, London...
Eugène Petit’s hunting scenes are highly sought after by collectors and can exceed €5,000 at auction houses or in galleries!
Oil on canvas
46 x 55 cm (with a 20th-century frame, minor losses and gilding touch-ups, about 58 x 67 cm)
Signed at the bottom right "E.PETIT"
Very nice presentation; the piece is clean and does not require cleaning. Note that there are a few light restorations.
Photos taken in the sun
