Description from the seller
Augustine, A.: D. Aurelii Augustini Hipponensis bishop, on The City of God, Book XXII. Corrected at last through comparison with ancient exemplars and illustrated with the most learned commentary of Lodovicus Vivvus. The first twelve of these are contained in the first part of the fifth volume of all his works. With an index, this very richly prepared and most accurate edition. Lyon, Sebastian Honoratus. 1570 (MDLXX) 8vo. (30,24)739(51) pages.
Original leather with ribs and gold embossing on the spine and covers. The binding has been restored, with a new spine placed under the old one. Feel free to open the book and browse through it; the binding is once again sturdy enough. The title illustration is missing. The text block is damp-stained. At the beginning, there are 5 pages, and at the end, 2 pages with a few small spots, possibly dried mold, see the photos. The title page has been reinforced. In short, the copy has only minor flaws. Nonetheless, it is a monumental book of over 450 years old, with the original binding, by a well-known theologian. The book was translated into Dutch in the 17th century.
Latin edition of the 22 books of the city of God
This edition is from long before the first Dutch edition.
New back, sturdy and good for use.
Beautiful 16th-century edition with the original binding.
