Italian school (XIX) - L'ultima cena

Miniature depicting the Last Supper in a frontal view: the scene is arranged symmetrically, with Christ seated at the center of the composition, recognizable by his solemn bearing and the aura of calm surrounding him. The apostles are positioned at the sides along the table, close to one another, each characterized by different gestures and expressions that suggest dialogue and emotional reactions.
The table, seen from the front, occupies the foreground and is laid with bread, cups and plates. The faces are small but expressive. The background is simple and not very deep, to focus the viewer’s attention on the sacred event. The reduced size of the miniature heightens the sense of intimacy and contemplation, inviting close reflection on the scene.


Dimensions 14×13 cm with the ebonized frame, 9×9 cm for the painting alone. In good condition.
