Iittala - Tapio Wirkkala - 26-piece crystal set - Ultima Thule series - Finland
An extraordinary and substantial 26-piece glassware set from the Ultima Thule series, designed by the legendary Tapio Wirkkala for the Finnish firm Iittala. This collection, originally conceived in the 1960s, is one of the apex examples of Scandinavian design and is inspired by the melting of Lapland's glaciers.
Details of the parts (Breakdown of the 26-piece set)
2 mugs with handles: Ideal for beer or cocktails.
• 10 tall glasses (Highball): Perfect for soft drinks or long cocktails.
• 5 water/whiskey glasses (Old Fashioned): With a textured base and a cylindrical body.
• 2 wine/water glasses with short stems: featuring the organic base 'frozen'.
• 5 liqueur/sherry glasses: smaller version with a stem.
• 4 shot glasses (Shot glasses): Small, short glasses with a rough base.
1. Mugs with handles (Beer Mugs / Tankards)
• Height: approx. 12 cm.
• Diameter: 9 cm.
• Capacity: 60 cl (600 ml).
2. Tall glasses (Highball)
• Height: approx. 14.5 cm.
• Capacity: 38 cl (380 ml).
• They are the tallest glasses in the back-left part.
3. Water glasses / Whisky (Old Fashioned / Rocks)
There are two common sizes; from the photo they appear to be the medium ones:
