Brand: Ascher London; Model name: Ascher London "Artist Square", silk twill scarf from the United Kingdom, 68 × 68 cm, in very good vintage condition with light signs of wear.
Description from the seller
Exclusive Vintage Ascher London 'Artist Square' – Silk Twill – Brutalist Design (ca. 1970)
Description:
A beautiful and rare specimen from the famous British textile house Ascher London. This scarf is a textbook example of mid-century modern textile design, executed in a bold, brutalist style with an abstract grid pattern.
Why this is a special collectible:
Brand & Signature: Signed "Ascher" in the print (integrated into the design). Ascher is renowned for the legendary "Artist Squares" collaborations with luminaries such as Henry Moore and Pablo Picasso.
Material: Made from a heavyweight silk twill (twill weave), which provides a beautiful sheen and a sturdy drape.
Finish: Featuring a hand-rolled and hand-stitched edge. This is a hallmark of high-quality luxury scarves and craftsmanship.
Design: An artistic palette of charcoal, taupe, ochre yellow, and mauve. The design strongly evokes the woodcuts and architectural sketches of British modernist artists from the 1960s and 1970s.
Specifications
Dimensions: approx. 68 x 68 cm.
Condition: In excellent vintage condition. The silk is smooth, the colors are vibrant and the hand-rolled hems are still nicely full ("plump"). No visible stains, holes or discolorations.
About Ascher London:
Ascher was the leading textile supplier for couture houses such as Christian Dior and Balenciaga. Their scarves are collected worldwide and are included in the collections of museums such as the Victoria & Albert Museum in London.
A unique opportunity for lovers of vintage fashion and modernist art.
